52 Week Project - Week 47

This weeks pictures come to you from a beautiful piece of art work from a phenomenal New Jersey artist, Johnny SOAP45 Vega.

He has created a model subway train for me, you can also see the other trains he has done on his page, click.

The following bio was taken from his website www.soap45.com

"For over 20 years Johnny Vega has built up an extensive and diverse body of work under the graffiti pseudonym SOAP45. This body of work has produced airbrush graffiti art on Walls, Clothing apparel, business establishments, Portraits, Helmets and much more! As a well known and long established graffiti artist, he has been named a legend in New Jersey and is highly respected in the Graffiti Industry. Among his many accomplishments, SOAP45 has done work for former New York Yankee Bernie Williams, New Jersey Devil, Martin Brodeur and Reality show star NJ housewife, Melissa Gorga.  Gallery presentations, solicitations to trade shows and graffiti meetings with M.O.S, cements the idea that SOAP45 is well regarded as one of the best in the game. Mixing medias by using photography, experimental painting, and print projects, SOAP45 promises to elevate his Graffiti style to a new and exciting dimension."

You can follow him on twitter, he is on facebook and my favorite is his website, www.soap45.com. Where you can see his art and purchase various paintings and also order custom portraits, hat's, t-shirts, hoodies, and yes a model subway train like mine.  He can do anything you like on it.

I want to wish my good friend the best and continued success!

I hope you liked the pics and go check out his website, you will not be disappointed.

Keep taking pictures!

Until Next Week!

52 Week Project - Week 36 - 42

Sorry I have not been around to update but I do want to finish up the year at the least.  I was inspired to start this up again by a good friend, the very talented SOAP45.

The following excerpt was taken from the sign that was posted under this beautiful Brahma Shrine:

"The Brahma shrine is renowned through the far east, to people of all faiths, as a place of prayer which in turn bestows prosperity and good fortune on those who come to visit and make their hopes and wishes known.

The casting ceremonies for the four-faced, eight-handed statue of the Brahma were held in Bangkok, Thailand on November 25, 1983 and many important religious authorities and international dignitaries participated."

Hope you liked this as much as I did when I saw it.

Until next week!

52 Week Project - Week 26

This weeks picture comes from Peru, these are balconies that are closed with beautiful doors.  I was able to find some info online about these from Wikipedia, see below.

The Balconies of Lima are cultural heritage built during the Spanish colonial regime as well as in the republic era in Peru. Most of them were built in the late 17th and 18th centuries, hence structures are located in the historical center of Lima. They were adapted for ceremonial purposes and have influenced in the life of many Peruvian scholars such as the 19th century writer Ricardo Palma. Nowadays the number of them counts up to 1,600.

In order to retain its conservation, the Municipality of Lima has invited individuals and companies to adopt a balcony in order to maintain them as if they were new. The abundance of these balconies adds to the particular harmony and originality to this part of the city.

52 Week Project - Week 24

Week 24 bought me to Machu Picchu.  What a beautiful site to visit. For the longest time I have see this wonder of the world on TV, Posters, videos and pictures of friends and family who have gone there.  When I first stepped in there was an overwhelming feeling of excitement, happiness, peacefulness and other indescribable feelings.  It was so unreal to actually be there and finally see it in person.  I'm planning on going back and spending a little more time there as I feel I did not take full advantage when I was there.

Enjoy!

The following was taken from the Sacred Sites Places of Peace and Power

The ruins of Machu Picchu, rediscovered in 1911 by Yale archaeologist Hiram
Bingham, are one of the most beautiful and enigmatic ancient sites in the world. While the Inca people certainly used the Andean mountain top (9060 feet elevation), erecting many hundreds of stone structures from the early 1400's, legends and myths indicate that Machu Picchu (meaning 'Old Peak' in the Quechua language) was revered as a sacred place from a far earlier time. Whatever its origins, the Inca turned the site into a small (5 square miles) but extraordinary city. Invisible from below and completely self-contained, surrounded by agricultural terraces sufficient to feed the population, and watered by natural springs, Machu Picchu seems to have been utilized by the Inca as a secret ceremonial city. Two thousand feet above the rumbling Urubamba river, the cloud shrouded ruins have palaces, baths, temples, storage rooms and some 150 houses, all in a remarkable state of preservation. These structures, carved from the gray granite of the mountain top are wonders of both architectural and aesthetic genius. Many of the building blocks weigh 50 tons or more yet are so precisely sculpted and fitted together with such exactitude that the mortarless joints will not permit the insertion of even a thin knife blade. Little is known of the social or religious use of the site during Inca times. The skeletal remains of ten females to one male had led to the casual assumption that the site may have been a sanctuary for the training of priestesses and /or brides for the Inca nobility. However, subsequent osteological examination of the bones revealed an equal number of male bones, thereby indicating that Machu Picchu was not exclusively a temple or dwelling place of women.

Here is one of my favorite pictures, I had to climb down to be lower than him and whistle so he can look over to capture this shot.
Did I mention that I LOVE my Canon T1i?
Until next week!
